Week in Review: 3.11.16-3.17.16

So I know everyone who is reading this has seen the movie: A LEGO Brickumentary. 
Oh you haven't. Well it's a documentary, about LEGO bricks. If you need to know more check it out on Amazon.  In the Brickumentary, there is a competition as part of an event were people were challenged to build something of their own, but using the same LEGO kits. So, on day 72 when I was feeling uninspired, God sent His inspiration (reference to the Day 72 quote, see the slideshow below with the week's creations and quotes) and gave me the idea to try the same exercise with one of the LEGO kits my sweet husband had bought me.

Side Note: This is a thing by the way now, random surprise LEGO kits to correspond to my day or an event. I mean don't get me wrong, it's super sweet, but we are giving LEGO a bit of money and starting a bit of a collection.

​Back on track: So on Day 72 the kit was planes and I decided before building any of theirs (the creator kits have three different creations you can build out of one kit - pretty cool) to build one of my own. 

So there's my plane. As you can see I had quite a few pieces left. So then I built the LEGO kit three planes.

It was a really cool experiment because some of the pieces I didn't use  were because I didn't really know how they worked or what they could do. So following the instructions and learning some of their uses was fun. The way the designers used the red claw pieces (sure they have a legitimate name but I don't know it) to attach so the plane wings could move by pulling the tail out on the first plane picture - amazing! And they use them to connect the side wings on the last plane and it's just too cool. 
So it was so fun to create first before following the instructions that I decided to repeat the experiment on Day 73 using another creator kit (as I said, I have a lot now). Here's what I built:

​What I love about that mailbox is that I was inspired by the previous plane kit and the moving parts. That's why on this day on instagram I posted a video so you could see that the mailbox could open and close and the flag could go up and down. I was super proud.
So I hope the lesson you take away is to do your own thing and to keep learning, be inspired, grow, and have fun! I remember when I was first starting this experiment I was building a kit and was comparing my skill level to it and felt defeated and not good enough. So it makes happy to see that now I'm not comparing, I'm just learning and inspired and okay with where I am.
