6/2/2016 0 Comments Creativity and Yoga366 Days of Creativity Week 22 in Review: May 27th-June 2ndOne of my favorite things to do when I travel is to try out new yoga studios and classes. I love my familiar yoga studio and home practice, but you also know I love to discover new things! Thanks to the MindBody App, I can easily see which yoga studios are nearby and the class schedule and sign-up. The reason I love doing this is because I love to experience the different, creative, innovative, unique, and even similar ways people teach yoga. I love the way people chose to name and describe their classes. I love seeing the way they have built and set up the space and all the intention and sacredness that went into it. I love how I feel different in the presence of different teachers and I get to experience a little bit of what they have to offer. But it takes a bit of work to go try out a new place and class. And honestly, if I hadn't been consistently practicing yoga for a couple of years now, I think I would be too scared. What if I can't keep up? What if they don't use the English words to describe poses? What if I don't know where to put my mat? What if they do something strange or unfamiliar? What if I don't fit in or wear the wrong thing? And I've had all of those things happen. But it's been so worth it because I've experienced creativity and inspiration and new things and new ways of thinking and music and spaces and styles. I have to give up things in order to go to the classes. Since I don't know how things work in a new place, I have to give up knowing and I have to be a beginner. I have to give up time and money that could be spent elsewhere. I have to give up the comfort of knowing how things will be and go. But I always get something out of it. Even if it's just a moment. Maybe hearing a thought, or a song, or seeing a decoration. Maybe learning something new or doing something differently. Maybe just a feeling I get. Sometimes it's the entire class. To try something new and creative does cost us and it is hard and the truth is, you never know exactly what you will get. But you will get something. And if you don't go or do something new, you'll never get anything creative. This blog post is called Creativity and Yoga, but it could be called Creativity and insert whatever it is you like doing. I get creative ideas from new classes because people are creative. We all see and experience the world differently, and I feel honored to get to enter into how someone else experiences and wants to share the craft of yoga from their own creative lens. Whatever is your yoga, how can you experience the things that you do and love in a different way? I took a chance this week with my LEGO creation and made a Stop Motion Video (yes, there is also an app for that called LEGO creator). Even as I was doing it I was thinking, is this worth it? And it's not perfect, but it's my first time and I learned. We learn what we like by doing. Days 148-154Day 148 "It helps to rehearse this manta: Anything with doing it worth doing even though it might not work. Fear always comes with art." Emily Freeman Day 149 "In artwork, the use of Whitespace is not nearly 'blank' space. It is an important element of design. It enables objects in a composition to exist at all, and it breathes beauty." Bonnie Gray Day 150 "Oh, and a very important point: Everyone thinks they are an imposter. Especially at the beginning. It's all good. You're not alone. We all think we are faking our way through." Andrea Scher Day 151 "All colors are the friends of their neighbors and the lovers of their opposites." Chagall Day 152 "There is no innovation or creativity without failure. Period." Brené Brown Day 153 "A painting is never finished - it simply stops in interesting places." Paul Gardner Day 154
"Friendship and creativity are the same, they cost something and what they both give back to you is expediently valuable." Shauna Niequest
