5/18/2017 1 Comment Creativity and Self-CompassionLet me tell you about my Self-Compassion card (SoulCollage® cards are for personal use and SoulCollage® does not advocate infringing on the copyrighted work of others in any way so my card cannot be shared here): I love the seeds blowing in the wind, it reminds me to be careful what seeds I am planting with my words and self-talk. I’ve come, over the years, to realize that I am co-creating, and the words I think and say truly do matter. I want to plant seeds of love and kindness and always have hope.
The woman with the crown reminds me that I am a child of God, and that’s how I should talk to myself. I was made in the image of God. I love this quote by Laurie Beth Jones: “Nowhere in the Gospel does Jesus put himself down. He was full of self-knowledge and self-love. His ‘I am’ statements were what he became.” And then I’m not sure about the gift, but it had to be on there - maybe to remember to treat myself as a gift? Is she unwrapping or wrapping, I don’t know, but she’s very intentional and has taken the time to decorate this gift. I want to take the time to care for myself and treat myself and my life as a gift. I want to stay present too and not in the past or the future, where I often find myself being harsh and critical. The present is precious, and so am I. If you could use two hours to release perfectionism and treat yourself with some compassion, I hope you will join us this Tuesday. We are going to be doing a great activity on talking to yourself like someone that you love that you could then use with your family and kids and more! Hope to see you there. Self-compassion is the key to creativity. Self-compassion reduces the possibility of staying critical. And staying less critical on yourself can make you more creative. If you do a survey, then you will find that everyone wants to be creative. However, only a few want to be compassionate. And the fact is- without being kind to yourself, you can’t be creative. Thus, you need to develop self-compassion in order to unleash your inventiveness. And to develop self-compassion, you have to overcome the fear of being wrong.
