Creativity and Repetition

Picture

I love how when I am focusing and creating something, I receive serendipitous messages of help from all areas of my life.
Maybe it's because my attention is on it, so I am drawn to things I wouldn't normally be, but I love it.

I am part of a monthly subscription of online yoga videos and I chose a video because it had a handstand in it, and it has been on my mind to get back to practicing handstands.

I still remember when I first started practicing and I was following along with a DVD and the teacher said, the practice of even kicking up (so not getting up) can bring up a lot of fear.

You bet.

I remember shaking after I attempted it (my wall might have been shaking too :)).

But I kept coming back to it and eventually it got easier and less scary.

So I'm not sure why it came to me to return to practicing, but it did, and I realized I wanted to because I didn't want to go back to the very beginning and lose all I had gained.

So I picked an online class video that had a handstand in it and the title happened to be called, "Invitation to Repetition."

Well, as it turns out, the class was all about doing poses differently to get you out of your usual patterns so that you could do something new.

It was also about coming back again and again to practices that you find serve you, and repeating them.

Contrasting main concepts, but somehow they worked together.

And I realized yes, this was just what I needed to practice and to hear right now.

The whole reason for practices such as 100 day projects, or 40 day yoga sadhanas, or even 40 day Lenten journeys, is to do something new, to create a new groove in your life, to rewire your brain by repetition.

But to get to the new and get unstuck, we have to be willing to believe and take a risk, to commit to an uncertain outcome.

It requires strength to say yes to daily repetition.

It requires believing new thoughts and being willing to take new actions.

So please consider this your invitation to repetition.

If you are ready to create something new in your life, I hope you will consider taking a leap of faith and signing up for 100 Days of Building Creativity.

All I can tell you is my own experience, but I will tell you that taking on three periods of sustained repetitive commitments, has been a game-changer for me.

The level of trust in myself and my ability to create new patterns in my life, and literally create in my life whatever my soul desires, is so strong.

I have a foundation of repetition that reminds me of what I'm capable of being and doing.

And you too are capable, more than you may even imagine.

You are strong and creative and you have the power to create what you want in your life.

So shake things up, go upside down, move yourself in a new way, and then repeat.......
