7/10/2017 0 Comments Creativity and Calm & StillnessWhen I made this collage card, I had no idea why I chose the images I did, I just knew they were speaking to my soul. The card has a vertebrae-like background and three images are collaged on top - a cactus, a turtle shell, and a circle of jumbled up and intwined metal paperclips. SoulCollage® cards are for personal use and SoulCollage® does not advocate infringing on the copyrighted work of others in any way, so that is why my card cannot be shared here. Once I glued them all down and reflected and did some journaling about them, I realized they were all images about patience and slowness. These are the lessons I am learning in this season and being reminded to trust. Sometimes we think practicing calm and becoming still means nothing is happening, and I can’t think of anything further than the truth. The fact is that the only way we can grow and become all we are meant to, is if we allow time for the growth and give ourselves rest on the journey. If you are anything like me, you want it all put together and cleaned up right now, and if it’s not, you are anxious. And yet some of the phrases I wrote when journaling were, “Be still. Trust the growth. There is a lot to integrate, untangle, and grow. It will take time. All is developing as it should. Rest.” And very slowly, some days more than others, I am getting further and further away from the anxiety as a lifestyle that Brené Brown says we have to let go of to cultivate calm and stillness. Instead, I am trusting in the parable of slow and steady wins the race. I am trusting in the counter-cultural movement in the West of going slowly and sustainably. I am trusting that there can be no integration and wholeness without time and patience. If you want practices to help cultivate calm and stillness I invite you to come to the WholeheARTed class this Tuesday. We will use meditation, restorative movement, and creative exercises to help us let go of anxiety as a lifestyle. www.leeannhilbrich.com/wholehearted *Please note, I am NOT a SoulCollage® Faciliator (as of July 2020 I am). I am just applying information for my personal use from a program and Seena B. Frost’s book, SoulCollage® Evolving.
