12/14/2016 3 Comments 2016 Review Part 6 of 8Inspiration came in so many forms this year. Honestly because I'm interested in so many things, I had times of a little too much inspiration to the point of feeling overwhelmed. I have to keep remembering to keep my input strength in check and keep an eye on perfectionism. Here's some things that inspired my in 2016: I went big with Flora Bowley's Brave Intuitive Painting e-course. I still remember the rush I got when I finished my first big canvas. I was getting frustrated as I had no idea how it would come together and had a deadline for myself so I just let go and let loose and splattered some orange paint down and all the sudden I saw it - flowers! It was a delightful ending that I celebrated with bubbles :)
I was also enrolled in Alena Henessy's A Year of Painting I & II (It was a buy one get one free kind of deal :). I really enjoyed playing with some new supplies thanks to her like acrylic inks, posca paint pens, and water-soluble crayons. Spotify. I LOVE spotify. I was that person who wanted you to pick the music because I felt my music was never cool enough. Now I can find all kinds of music and don't have to worry about playing the same music over and over at events and workshops. Plus, it's a work expense :) I love the DISCOVER weekly playlist too where they pick music they think I may enjoy. Also in the category of music inspiration - discovering Gungor's delightful trilogy: Soul, Spirit and Body. And did you know JT released a new single... "I Can't Stop This Feeling!" I kept up with reading a chapter from a book on Creativity once a week and therefore read The Artists Way (started in December 2015), Creativity Inc., The War on Art, Free Play, and The Painting Path. In fact, it's time to pick out a new book... I found some new creative entrepreneurs who spoke to me with their words or creations. I will still remember the morning I woke up so overwhelmed with all the projects I had going that I just wanted to stay in bed. So I did and as I was scrolling through social media I came across a post by Brendon Burchard about helping entrepreneurs prevent burnout. He was so full on enthusiasm and hope that he helped me get out of bed and turn my day around. Artist and Author Cynthia Morris, who I got this idea of doing an annual review from, is doing her own 365 project, drawing coffee cups. I also love following artists, creatives, and inspiring people on Instagram. I also made sure to keep meeting with friends and colleagues and artists. Almost every week I would have at least one meet-up planned and the time that took was so worth it for connection and inspiration. Podcasts and audiobooks definitely continue to keep my company, especially when I was building LEGO® creations. One I always look forward to is the Possibilitarian Podcast by Kelly Rae Roberts. They don't have new episodes often but when they do I totally savor and love them. I love how you can find podcast episodes on anything you are interested in, including guided meditations! The whole wide world of Tea. Global Tea Hut is an amazing monthly subscription to fair-trade, chemical free tea that comes with a magazine. Heaven. Add to that the whole wide world of Therapeutic Grade Essential Oils. Who knew that "there really is an oil for that!" I'm having so much fun playing around with plant medicine and learning how to incorporate it into my practice. I even became a wellness advocate for DoTerra because I don't see this obsession going away anytime soon. And last but not least, Mushrooms and Cacti and Shadows. Yes, I think they are fascinating inspirations for art and enjoy spotting them. Stay tuned for Part 7 next week!
